Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language

Research Products

In the Spring of 2014, I began an action-research project focused on academic writing and critical thinking. In my project, I explore teacher expectations for academic writing and definitions of critical thinking by administering a survey to Gonzaga University's undergraduate faculty. Findings include types of written assignments given, expected writing skills, teacher feedback, and subject-specific definitions of critical thinking. Conclusions provide suggestions for incorporating the data and findings into the English as a Second Language (ESL) classroom, and strategies for undergraduate professors working with international students and their writing. For full details and comments given by my professor, please select the documents under action research project below, or go to the Academic Products page. After completing my project, I wrote a follow-up reflection paper on my experiences, methodology, analysis, and plans for continued research. In addition to a follow-up plan, I have included a plan for publishing my research in the near future. To view these documents, select the links under reflection and follow-up.
